Sofa Stitching Process at Sofa Studio

The stitching process for a sofas at our factory will depend on the design and style of the sofa, as well as the type of fabric being used. Here are some general steps for stitching a sofa:

  1. Cut the Fabric:We Use a rotary cutter or scissors to cut the fabric to the appropriate size and shape for the sofa cushions and frame.
  2. Sew the Cushions: If the sofa has separate seat and back cushions, we sew the fabric pieces together, leaving one side open. Insert the foam cushion into the cover and then sew the remaining side closed.
  3. Sew the Frame Cover: If the sofa has a removable cover for the frame, We stitch the fabric pieces together to fit the frame. Leave openings for the arms, back, and seat cushions.
  4. Attach the Frame Cover: Once the cover is complete, fit it over the sofa frame and smooth out any wrinkles or folds. Use a staple gun or heavy-duty adhesive to attach the fabric to the frame, making sure to tuck in any excess fabric neatly.
  5. Add Details: Depending on the design of the sofa, we may need to add decorative stitching or trim to the cushions or frame cover.
  6. Attach Velcro or Zippers: Attach Velcro or zippers to the back or underside of the sofa cushions to allow for easy removal and cleaning.
  7. Install Cushion Foam: Cut and attach foam padding to the cushions, ensuring a snug fit.
  8. Sew Cushion Covers: Sew the cushion covers, leaving one side open to insert the foam cushion.
  9. Insert Cushion Foam: Insert the foam cushion into the cushion cover and close the opening with Velcro or a zipper.
  10. Attach Cushions to Sofa: Attach the cushions to the sofa frame using Velcro or other fasteners.

At Sofa Studio we use a heavy-duty sewing machine and thread when sewing a sofa, as the fabric and cushions will be under a lot of weight and pressure. It’s also a good idea as we test stitch on a scrap piece of fabric before starting on the actual sofa to ensure that the tension and stitch length are correct.
